CIRCULAR NO.B1-12815/07 Dated 7-11-2007
This circular details the procedure for corrections in Birth and Death Registers
1.The clerical mistakes viz.spelling mistakes in names or in other entries etc.,can be corrected by the Registrar himself on production of documents and after getting satisfied.
2.Factual errors can be done on getting affidavit from two credible persons to that effect and on application. As per the request, and on enquiry if found correct change can be effected.
3.If the entry is found to be fraudulent or not apt enough the Registrar is supposed to send a detailed report to the Chief Registrar to that effect and to act according to his direction.
When changes are effected , as per the provisions in sec.15, no change in the original entry shall be done; instead entry shall be recorded in the margin and attested.
The applications received for correction need not be sent to the Chief Registrar; but clarifications if any required can be sought.
